Welcome to Ace Hi's information page. Here we hope that many of your questions will be answered before you buy a Great Dane. Weather it be from us or someone else. We want you to be as informed as you can be. We believe that with proper health screening, a sound foundation for temperament and a little common sense, the Danes that we have and possibly the Danes that you get from us will be the epitome of what Great Danes should be. We are members of the Great Dane Club of America and the Heart Of Minnesota Great Dane Club as well as The Great Dane Club of Des Moines. We are color ethical breeders, breeding from the guidelines for acceptable colors. We actively compete in conformation with our Danes. All of our Danes are housedogs who enjoy sharing our home and bed with us. We believe that each Dane should be first and foremost, a loved pet. If someone calls and asks if we sell pets also, the answer would be yes. All of our Danes are companions as well as show dogs.
Each puppy bought from Ace Hi Danes will be sold with a contract. This contract protects the integrity of the breeder and the buyer. There will be no exceptions. All pet puppies are sold on Limited registration insuring, any puppies produced from this dog cannot be registered. This puppy will still be able to compete in all AKC events ie. Flyball, Agility, Obedience etc., except for conformation. All puppies sold by Ace Hi Danes have a co ownership with us until terms of the contract are met. We require that pets be spayed or neutered at 12 months for females and 18 months for males to ensure that optimum growth has been attained. We DO NOT sell breeding stock Great Danes! If you wish to breed your Great Dane that you purchased from us, the dog must first be proven in the conformation ring by earning its' AKC championship.
Each Great Dane produced by us is guaranteed to be free of genetic health defects as determined by a competent veterinarian. We do not cover things such as parvovirus, distemper, heartworm or nutritional related disease or non genetic diseases. Also not covered is temperament issues as we cannot guarantee how the puppy was raised once it leaves here. Danes as a giant breed can have health problems such as Osteocondritis, Panosteitis, Wobblers Syndrome . To help prevent these non genetic problems from popping up, we request that your puppy never be fed "puppy" food. Feed a high quality adult food that is 23% protein or less. We feed Eagle Natural. There are many choices out there, ask if you have questions. The above mentioned health problems are not covered under our guarantee since once the puppy leaves our home, we have no way to control how the puppy was fed or exercised. Both of these play an important part of the outcome of your puppy. Under no circumstances should your puppy ever be fed calcium supplements, the only vitamin that we give is Vitamin C. We also recommend that food and water dishes be elevated. This helps reduce the stress on the neck and back while the dog is eating. Your puppy may seem like he is always full of energy. But remember that too much exercise on the fast growing breeds is not good for proper and healthy bone development. There should never be any forced exercise on a Dane until the are two years old. Examples of forced exercise would be bicycling, jogging. Puppies love to play chase with you, a ball or a frisbee, these types of play are fine as well as walking. Just use common sense and don't overdo it.
Great Danes do not make good outside pets. When left outside, they become a nuisance to everyone. They become barkers and become bored, destructive and a nuisance. They are extremely family oriented. Also, they do not have the coat or the body fat to live or spend most of their time there. No fat to insulate against either hot or cold temps.
Your puppy will be registered with the American Kennel Club. Under certain circumstances we will allow them to be registered with another club. This must be in writing and approved by Ace Hi Danes. Most of the time, your puppy will already be registered when you get him/her. The price of your puppy does not include transportation or ear cropping. We do have a vet that does our ears. If you wish for your vet to crop, please expect us to ask for pictures of his past croppings and references. Something as simple as a bad job can turn an otherwise beautiful Dane into something less.
Before we breed anyone, they are health tested for hips, thyroid and cardio. We stand behind each puppy that we sell. If for any reason you cannot keep you Great Dane, we require that the puppy or adult dog that you purchased from us be returned. We guarantee all puppies against crippling genetic health defects such as cardio and severe hip displasia providing that you have the proper health screenings performed before the dog is 26 months old. If for some reason beyond our control, they are found to have such a problem, we will replace or refund the price of your Dane.
We will always have an open door policy to our buyers, they can call us at any hour of the day or night and be assured that they will talk to a real person who has the dogs' best interest at heart. One who will laugh at the antics of their Dane, cheer over the accomplishments and help through any trouble that you may have. We love hearing from people who have bought a puppy from us in the past.
